Weekend Excursion: Millennium Monument
|
On Jan 5th, the first weekend of the year and a lovely sunny winter’s day, World Link organized a trip to the Millennium monument. The Millennium monument was built in the year 2000 to welcome the 21st century. It is uniquely shaped as a sundial. One of the highlights of this month’s exhibition were the Buddha statues from the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) to the Northern Qin Dynasty (550-577) in Qingzhou. A total of 108 of the finest Qingzhou artefacts were exhibited.
We also visited the Century Hall dedicated to the achievements of Chinese civilisation. An impressive golden monument stood in the center surrounded by pillars, an the walls of the century hall wereheld beautiful carvings depicting the different dynasties. The underground gallery presented a range of Chinese paintings by famous artists. At the top of the sundial structure students took in the breathtaking views of the city.

Weekend Activity: Art and Craft Workshop
|
On Jan 12th, Sun, World Link students were introduced to Chinese arts and craft. Students first observed the experts demonstrating the techniques of pottery, jewellery making and cross-stitching, and then tried to emulate what they had learnt. This creative and fun workshop resulted in beautiful pieces of art as students exhibited their individual styles in making their own jars, vases and water containers. The students also learnt how to mould soft colored clay into fine pieces of jewellery. From preparing the clay to glazing and firing their works of art, this interactive workshop certainly developed the creative side of the students. It was a most enjoyable learning experience!

World Link Staff Activity: Chunjie Party
On Jan, 25th, a Saturday filled with snow in Beijing, World Link staff gathered together for our Chunjie's Day party (Chinese Spring Festival). The party started with lunch at the Athena - a Greek restaurant, followed by KTV at Party World - a well known karaoke place in Beijing. Everyone tried their voices and delighted in Elizabeth's debut. We also surprised Cindy by giving her a beautiful birthday cake! Thanks every body!
